Email #18: Recommendations, Bulletins, Magazines...Blogs?

Dear <firstname> ,
Not all freelancers make a bee line for
freelance directories when they want to
look for a new job. Some of them use
alternative methods to get their services
made known.

The most commonly used method would
be recommendations. People trust the
recommendations of their friends and loved
ones. So go ahead and ask your mentor,
fellow marketers, business associates.
People would be more than willing to
recommend freelancers to you, after all
it doesn't cost them any money.

Then there are the freelancers who go to
colleges, universities and schools to post
on their bulletin boards their contact numbers
and/or emails. These could be students
who need the extra money or are building
their portfolio so programming and writing
duties could be much cheaper than the
market rates out there.

However being students , you need to be
wary of the quality provided if it is written
by inexperienced kids there's probably going
to be some rewriting needed.

Then we come to magazines and blogs. Certain
magazines in some niches allow for ad space in
the back pages and people do place ads there.
As for blogs, freelancers savvy in search engine
optimization (SEO) make use of them to display
their portfolio, design skills, writing skills and
what have you. When people search for their
services, there is a high chance they may stumble
upon their sites.

I will cover a very surprising topic in the next email:
why you should NOT outcource.

To your successful outsourcing,
